Background:
Each year, the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC Catholic) Catholic District School Board provides an opportunity to parents/guardians, students, staff, and community members to review draft school year calendars for the upcoming year.
You will find two draft options for the 2026-2027 School Year Calendar under Documents on the right side of this page.
The draft calendars for next school year look different than recent calendars. The reason for this is Labour Day falls later in September 2026. This results in fewer days between the day after Labour Day and the end of June. As such it becomes necessary to either schedule students to return before Labour Day, or have staff attend for PA Days before Labour Day.
Highlights of the proposed calendars:
Option 1
- Students return to school on Tuesday, September 1st, before Labour Day and attend school Tuesday to Friday. Students still have nine weeks of summer break in this option.
- Students have an extended break in November on the 13th and 16th.
- The traditional Christmas break of two weeks and March break of one week plus a day remain unchanged.
- There are seven PA days as allowed by the Ministry of Education.
Option 2
- Students return to school on Tuesday, September 8th, after Labour Day.
- There is no PA day In September after Labour Day - both are observed in September before students return.
- The traditional Christmas break of two weeks remains unchanged. March break is only one week. Students attend school on the Friday before March break.
- There are seven PA days as allowed by the Ministry of Education.
